Pteris
Pteris (brake ferns) is a genus consisting of around 300 species of ferns which are widespread throughout the tropics and subtropics.
Several other genera are often misidentified as Pteris, namely Histiopteris, Mildella, Pellaea, and Pteridium.
Plants grow well in moist, well drained, humus-rich soil and should not be overwatered.
The 1997 IUCN Red List of Threatened Plants lists nineteen species as threatened, which represents 7% of the species worldwide.
