Cystopteris

Cystopteris, or Bladderferns, consists of around 10-20 species of mostly small ferns with delicate foliage. All occur in temperate regions.

The genus is found throughout Canada and the entire United States (including Hawai`i), with one species, Cystopteris fragilis, having a particularly cosmopolitain distribution. This is the only species endemic to California.
