Culcita

The Culcita genus was first described in 1836 and consists of only two living species: Culcita coniifolia, which is endemic to Central and South America and the islands of the Caribbean, and Culcita macrocarpa, which is endemic to the Iberian Peninsula and the islands of the northern Atlantic.

They may form massive trunks, but rarely exceed three meters (10 feet) in height, with fronds between 1-3 meters (3-10 feet) in length, and are a member of the Dicksoniaceae family (which also includes Calochlaena, Cibotium, Cystodiopteris, Dicksonia, and Thyrsopteris).

Culcita grows well in moist, well drained humus in open, light conditions.
