Angiopteris

The genus Angiopteris contains around 200 living species which are native to wet habitats in the tropics. They are very large ferns, with massive stems and fronds reaching up to 7 meters (23 feet) in length.

Angiopteris require consistantly moist, well drained soil and must be protected from wind and frost. They must not be allowed to dry out, as wilted fronds recover with difficulty.

Angiopteris dates back to at least the Jurassic Period (145 - 200 million years ago), with fossils occuring in rocks from this time.

The 1997 IUCN Red List of Threatened Plants lists two species as threatened.

Please note: all of our Angiopteris are grown from spore, not by using plant cuttings.
