Conservation

Just like many other types of plant around the world, fern species are in need of conservation. This is especially true of tree ferns, particularly the Cyatheaceae family (which includes the genus Cyathea). The 1997 IUCN Red List of Threatened Plants lists a total of 683 out of 9,053 fern species as threatened. For the Cyatheaceae family, 202 out of 623 species are threatened, which represents an alarming 32.4% of the species worldwide. For the Dicksoniaceaee family (which includes tree ferns of the genus Dicksonia), 4 out of 41 species are threatened (9.8%). You can play your part by supporting conservation efforts and by donating to organizations such as the IUCN - The World Conservation Union. Donate online now to help save threatened species Our goal is to propagate some of these species, and for each and every plant we sell which is on the IUCN Red List, a donation will be made to the ICUN. |
